Interfaith Harmony and Peacebuilding Initiatives.

Harmony Foundation has continued its campaign for interfaith harmony and peacebuilding through the girls’ schools in District Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh. The girls in the ten high schools are involved in the following activities.
1.In the first phase an orientation program is organized with the teachers and School Management Committee on the concepts of peace, interfaith harmony, tolerance, non-violence and reconciliation. The orientation is given on the concepts and the need of integrating these concepts with the lessons of the children and other co-curricular activities.
2.A two-day training program is organized with the teachers of the selected school on the manual of peacebuilding and interfaith harmony. The participants prepare the lessons for the classrooms and for the co-curricular activities.
3.The students take part in posters making, essay writing, sports events and related activities.
Harmony Foundation has documented a brief report based on the syllabus being taught to the students in the schools with the lessons, sentences, pictures promoting hatred and alienation in the society. The report is discussed in the training program with the teachers.
Recently twp private schools have also been included in the Interfaith harmony and Peacebuilding program of Harmony Foundation.

Pakistan Peace Campaign by installing Peace Poles

Pakistan is facing a crisis that has hit the foundation of the country and the threat has weakened the mental and psychological fabric of the society. In the situation, the need for promoting peace and strengthening the values of tolerance and non-violence become the pre-requisite. Society needs a breakthrough that touches the heart and mind of all the Pakistanis.

With this situation in mind, Harmony Foundation Pakistan, a human rights based organization has begun a national peace campaign with the following components.

  1. Installing Peace Poles with a very clear message of peace.
  2. Promotion of installing peace poles by using the computer, text messaging, the cell phones and the telephones.
  3. A peace prayer that reads:

May Peace prevail in Pakistan. Pakistan mein aman qaim ho (Urdu translation)

We plan to install 500 peace poles all over the country. Everyone is invited to plant a peace pole or display peace prayers on plaques and banners.

The design of the peace pole is as follows:

  1. A five-foot or higher peace pole, four inches by four inches wide or more, square or circular, wood or metal.
  2. The peace prayer is painted or carved on all four sides in Urdu or mother tongue.
  3. The peace pole is painted in green and the peace prayer in white. The cultural decorations are in all colors.
  4. Peace pole are to be installed throughout the country in schools, homes, parks, hospitals, bus and train stations.
  5. Please invite as many people as possible to the peace pole installation ceremony.

Harmony Foundation in collaboration with local groups has installed more than 200 Peace Poles all over Pakistan and the activity is continued.
